London. Octob. 31. Yesterday being the anniversary of his
Majesty's birth-day, who then entered into the 53d year of
his age, the same was observed with all possible
demonstrations of joy. The morning was ushered in with
ringing of bells. At noon there was a very splendid
appearance at St. James's, of the nobility of both sexes,
foreign ministers, judges, and other persons of distinction,
to compliment his Majesty on that occasion. His Highness the
Prince of Modena was at court to pay his compliments, and
was dressed in a magnificent manner, far surpassing all that
appeared on the occasion.
The evening concluded with a ball at court, and bonfires,
illuminations, &c. throughout the cities of London and
Westminster.
ODE FOR THE KING'S BIRTH-DAY.
Monarch of musick, verse, and day,
With harmony awake the morn,
Sacred the breaks, to Caesar born;
So let her brow, thy splendid ray,
With brighter smiles adorn.
